description: Personally contribute to Portland artist Marie Watt’s upcoming sculptural installation, Forget-me-not: Blossom, by creating wool flowers as an act of remembrance and a metaphor for the cycle of life. Each hand-stitched blossom will be included in Watt’s new work, on view in the Contemporary Northwest Art Awards, June 14 through September 14, 2008.

description: Visitors of all ages can explore their creative sides, engage their imaginations, and discover together through themed activities highlighting the Museum’s permanent collections and special exhibitions. Family Tour 12:30–1:30 pm Enjoy a docent-led tour of the photography collection. Story Time 2:30–3 pm Explore the world of photography through books. Family Drop-ins 1–3 pm Drop in for 10 minutes or an hour of art-making activities.

Asian Art Council special lecture by Sussan Babaie, Ph.D.

description: With its exuberant color and surface patterning and its disregard for naturalism and scientific perspective, Persian painting of the 14th through 19th centuries forms a unique idiom in world art. A native of Iran and a specialist in Iranian and Islamic art, Dr. Babaie will guide viewers through a close reading of the pictorial conventions and astonishing visual effects of this remarkable art form.
